Types of Embroidery Kits

I offer a few different types of embroidery kits. Below are some short & sweet descriptions that may be helpful if you are new to the craft.

CANDLEWICKING
What is candlewicking embroidery?

Candlewicking began by people using the same thread used in making candles to create embroidery designs. Also, the stitching was created on cotton muslin. Typically, these embroideries were simple designs using white thread on white fabric. Modern candlewicking designs often incorporate embroidery flosses and the use of color. However, many modern designs still use natural cotton muslin fabric, which is made from unprocessed yarn that contains particles of pod and leaf.

CREWEL
What is crewel embroidery?

Traditionally, crewel is embroidery worked on any type of fabric using wool. However, modern day has brought us 100% acrylic crewel-type yarns.

NEEDLEPOINT
What is needlepoint embroidery?

Needlepoint, also known as canvas embroidery, is simply embroidery stitches worked on an open-weave canvas.

What is longstitch?

Longstitch is a type of needlepoint stitch – a straight stitch worked to any length, in one direction. This stitch is often used to quickly cover large areas of canvas. There are vintage needlepoint kits that are done entirely in longstitch. They are fun, kind of like paint-by-number!
